Program
The development of the MS in Computing Security and Information Assurance (MS/CSIA) at RIT began with the collaboration of experts and practitioners in the field of information assurance.  Working closely with these practitioners, the faculty in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) established the knowledge set deemed necessary for all information assurance practitioners.  This knowledge set was chosen to provide a common knowledge base or foundation on which to build the MS/CSIA degree.  Courses spanning this knowledge set were developed and became the six core courses in the MS/CSIA program.  The courses that make up this foundation are designed to give students a better understanding of both the technological as well as the ethical role of computer security in society.  Three departments in GCCIS (Computer Science (CS), Software Engineering (SE), and Networking, Security, and Systems Administration (NSSA)) and the College of Business (COB) participate in the delivery of these six required courses making this a multi-disciplinary degree.

Two other required courses are the Research Methods (4055-726) and Thesis Course (4055-897).

Completion of the core courses provide students with the foundation needed to develop a specialization in one of several areas by selecting four related elective courses under the guidance of a faculty advisor. Students will conclude their program of study through the successful completion of a thesis under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

This cross-disciplinary program will enable graduates to develop a strong foundation and will prepare them for leadership positions in both the private and public sectors in the computer security area or admission to programs leading to an advanced degree.
